DJANGOKAM

Caribbean artist Β· OKI

The story

DJANGOKAM was born 29 years ago in Wanakaera β€” the name the Kalinas, the island's first inhabitants, gave to what is today called Martinique. An OKI artist with international success, he carries reggae, zouk and konpa from stage to stage, all the way to the K-pop he sings in Korean β€” the vibe first, the language second.

He sings love as a seducer who respects women, and memory as a son of the ancestors: the language of his heart is the KA, the one wrongly called "Creole". Facing the French colonial state that would rather silence his island's voice, he chose his weapon: music, so the nation may shine.

At his side, his friend NYYOKA carries the same fight, from the sea. His favourite stages remain those of Wanakaera and Karukera, his grandfather's island.
